Transgender Equality
Transgender people face discrimination and injustice in almost every part of life.

From transgender indivisuals in high position jobs to people in the prison system, there is bias and discrimination agaist them.

In the workforce 1/4 transgender people have experienced loosing a job over this bias and 1/4 have faced discrimination. Its especially higher for people of color. Transgender people in prison systems are also frequently abused and violeted a lot more compared to others by both the inmates as well as the staff. 57% of transgende people, according to 2015 US Transgender Survey admit they would not go to the police for help.

What is being done

As of June 15,2020 the supreme court clarified a law prohibiting the discrimination of transgender indivisuals in the workplace setting. Also the Equal Employement Opportunity Commusion has been working hard in trying to settle cases of discrimination and work in trying to make the work enviroment more welcoming for trans people with enforcing their rights as a priority.

Where have we seen change?

The supreme court just recently in December of 2020, has allowed for students to use whichever bathroom of the gender they identify as. Pronouns are being better respected in schools and in everyday life. In this election Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender state senator and the first openly transgender person in the white house a couple years ago as an intern for Barack Obama.
